Band places well on debut in Scottish Championships

The band came a very respectable 13 out of 25 entrants on its debut in the Scottish Championships on 22nd May 2010. On one of the hottest days of the year, the young band played their hearts out with a performance to be proud of. In fact, one judge placed the band in the top 6.

This first result bodes well for the band which now looks to improve its standing as the season goes on. A good day was had by all, including the sing-song on the way home!.

The Band’s Debut into the competition arena at Dunbar on the 8th of May 2010

The first Scottish outdoor contest of the 2010 Pipe Band Season was held at Dunbar, this saw the Band make its first ever appearance on the competition circuit. At this competition, which combined Grade 4a and 4b Bands, the Band gained a very respectable 11th out of the 23 entrants, which was a result that we had hoped for; this included an 8th placing from a piping judge.

This was a great achievement considering that this was the first time that 14 of our members had ever stepped foot on the competition field. The band notably also took the scalp of a number of established 4a bands despite being a new entrant Grade 4b band.

We are now looking forward to competing in the Scottish Championships in Dumbarton on the 22nd of May, where we will hopefully improve our standing.

The band’s annual ceilidh and awards night was held in November and a great night was had by all. A big thanks goes to the Fundraising committee for organising the evening and raising a great sum to go toward band funds.

The Barrack Jamieson Ceilidh Band provided the entertainment and did a great job. The annual awards were also presented and these went to Daniel Devlin (Most Improved Learner Piper), Caitlin Cameron (Most Improved Learner Drummer), Paul Hannan (Most Improved Piper) and Beth Forbes (Most Improved Drummer).
